Johannesburg is finally joining the organic food party. With stores opening left and right supporting local farmers and stocking genuine organic, sustainably made products. It’s a miracle! Ok maybe not a miracle, but it’s pretty cool. The more and more everyone is just that little bit more CONSCIOUS the more I feel this sustainability movement will start to take effect.
Anyway. So like I said, Jozi-organic-food-party yay! However, there’s still not that many easily accessible places to buy good groceries. Up until recently the Bryanston Organic Food Market basically had a monopoly. But little by little there are stores popping up here and there making it a bit easier for people to get their produce closer to home 🙂 Like Farm Table. Linden / Northcliff / Blairgowrie /Craighall area is a little far removed from the Waldorf School Market to just pop in for some fresh kale on your way home. Farm Table, however is situated in the heart of Linden and it’s stocked full of all the basics (and some of the not-so-basics) that you might need during the week! It’s really great.
Kerry opened Farm Table with the view to support and promote the sustainability movement and obviously local farmers and authentic organic produce. She even checks the ingredients down to the last little drop of negatively impacting palm oil or BPA containing cans… She’s a super sweetheart and her store is really just full of love and hard work.
It might be small now, but I believe that there is a gap in the market for a place like this and I hope to see it growing as the need in the area grows along with it. So if you need anything from fresh veggies (best fresh lemons in town), gluten-free pasta, organic teas or even skincare products then pay Farm Table a visit. You can find them at 62 6th Street, Linden, Johannesburg. Follow them on Facebook or give Kerry a call on 087 802 1283.
