WE LOVE EATING OUT. I love being waited on, not slaving away in the kitchen and most of all not cleaning up! Unfortunately, often it’s a struggle when you have dietary restrictions – no gluten, sugar-free, plant-based or vegan… It’s so refreshing when you come across a place that has already catered to some of the more unusual restrictions and made it interesting and delicious instead of just another average salad.
Urbanologi is one of those places.
Their menu has a new designation key where you can easily see what is vegetarian and what is vegan. With Kyla being strictly gluten-free and me trying to be better in that regard, we stuck to the vegan & gluten-free options. Chef Jack was so kind as to even give us alternative sauces where they had used emulsions etc that have eggs or dairy in them. We had the Deep Fried Potatoes, Urbanologi Spring Salad (which was THE BEST SALAD I HAVE EVER HAD – and as you all know I hate salad), the Heirloom Baby Carrots and of course the vegan dessert.
Everything was out of this world. The Deep Fried Potatoes were served with a chimmichurri which was INCREDIBLE, instead of the usual seaweed emulsion (which I hear is also to die for), the Sweet Potatoes were served with a crumbed honeycomb which totally made the dish for me (too sweet for Kyla but what’re you gonna do). I must say the only pitfall for me was the dessert. It was a Peach Salsa, Lemongrass & Pineapple sorbet and Peppermint Candy Floss. It was a bit disjointed and I personally felt like it didn’t have that ‘wowzer’ that all the other dishes had. However, the amazing service, the charming Chef Jack and the absolutely DELICIOUS food otherwise made up for it 10000%.
Urbanologi, for those of you who are living under a rock, is based in Maboneng in town. It’s a little on the far side for us Bryanston-bound folk, but it’s worth the Uber right for an amazing experience. You can see the Urbanologi website here, and call them on 011 492 0901 for reservations and more info.
THANKS FOR THE DELICIOUS EXPERIENCE GUYS! I have, and will be back again soon.
